This large south facing garden has been looked after by
a plant lover but had become somewhat overgrown in
places and the long border from the terrace to the
summerhouse needed a complete redesign. This would
involve a team of landscape contractors to remove and
prune trees and shrubs and bring in new topsoil.
The clients had some ideas of the type of planting they
would like but needed guidance and decided to employ a
Garden Designer to organise this work. The border had
some nice existing shrubs but not necessarily in the
best positions. The boundary hedge needed drastic
pruning to allow light back into this area. The border
needed reshaping and widening in places.

The planting design:

The planting
design includes a few new shrubs to provide evergreen
structure and climbers to add another layer of planting
interest along the boundary and through existing trees.
The main planting is a combination of grasses and
perennials for a sunny border.
Planting work in
progress:

Planting on first
day - this border will fill out and mature quite quickly
with the addition of bulbs and hardy annuals.
